Automatic Grading Prototype System for KANJI Dictation Test
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents an automatic grading prototype system developed as recognition engine for Japanese KANJI Dictation Test which aims to certificate the reading and writing ability of KANJI characters. The system is designed to replace the conventional human-grading process. Different from general handwritten character recognition systems which allow to read incorrect (misspelled) characters, the grading system is required to discriminate miswritten characters more strictly from correct ones. This paper introduces the core processing stages of the system. Focused on the relationship between “Error of judgement” and “Rejection”, several discrimination methods based on the character classification approach and the likelihood approach are comparatively evaluated. A grading accuracy of error rate less than 0.5% with rejection rate less than 50% is achieved in the performance evaluation test.

Recent Topics in Speech Recognition Research at NTT Laboratories
This paper introduces three recent topics in speech recognition research at NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) Human Interface Laboratories. The first topic is a new HMM (hidden Markov model) technique that uses VQ-code bigrams to constrain the output probability distribution of the model according to the VQ-codes of previons frames. The output probability distribution changes depending on th...

متن کاملLUMBER GRADING Spatial WITH A COMPUTER
Over the past few years significant progress has been made in developing a computer vision system for locating and identifying defects on surfaced hardwood lumber. Unfortunately, until September of 1988 little research had gone into developing methods for analyzing rough lumber. This task is arguably more complex than the analysis of surfaced lumber. The prime motivation for developing such a s...
متن کاملTowards an automatic dictation system for translators : the transtalk project
Professional translators often dictate their translations orally and have them typed afterwards. The TransTalk project aims at automating the second part of this process. Its originality as a dictation system lies in the fact that both the acoustic signal produced by the translator and the source text under translation are made available to the system. Probable translations of the source text c...
